Aspect
ratio:
Print sizes vary greatly in their aspect ratios.
Please provide H & W dimension and targeted use for each
selected image, e.g. 8x10 for headshot lithograph or 5x5 for comp card.
Blemish
removal:
Isn’t this why digital photography is so great?
Common removals consist of wrinkles, pimples, stray hairs,
bloodshot eyes, dry lips, teeth color, skin shine, moles, age spots, etc,
etc. Hey we’re all human; just tell us what you want touched up.
Brightness:
Please let us know if you want the photograph brighter or darker.
Selectively, we can perform shadow recovery on dark items like background
or on clothing textures. Another common treatment is to apply a
darker vignette around the edges of the frame or in an oval pattern which
helps direct the viewer’s eye to the subject.
Color
balance:
Sometimes images just seem off. This is typically associated to a warm or cool colorcast
present in the image. Colorcasts
and saturation may be applied artificially to give the picture a specific
mood or style, e.g. Maxim style glamour photographs.
Composites:
Do you want several images combined into a single image?
In modeling, these are referred to as comp or zed cards. Other uses may be a horizontal filmstrip or a vertical
photo-booth type look.
Cropping:
Cropping aids the presentation of the images by minimizing
dead-space, removing distractions, and helping the overall composition.
Please explain coordinates or features to exclude/include.
Enhancements:
I’m not a plastic surgeon but I play one on TV.
Seriously, is there something that could improve the image?
Is your tummy an ‘outtie’ today or does that pose make your
thighs look large? Let us
know and we can do a little plastic surgery to the image.
Other common enhancements are removing distracting items from the
scene or re-attaching body parts that may have been cut off by the edge of
the frame.
Focus
adjustments: Many
images need a little focus adjustment to help the subject become the focal
point. Focus adjustments ranges from image sharpening to selective
blurring. A common use of blur is a ‘soft focus’ treatment
applied just to the skin that gives the subject a smooth, blemish free
complexion.
Resizing:
Common web etiquette suggests that images used on the web or via
email should be down-sampled. This
helps others see your images faster and ensures that the images are not
too large or small for the receiver’s monitor.
Some online portfolio services require certain sizes specified in
‘kilobytes’ or pixel dimensions.
Rotations:
Is the image slightly off axis or needs to be rotated from portrait
to landscape for final presentation?
Please specify clockwise or counter-clockwise from 0 to 90 degrees
